Requirements for renting a car in Uganda
- A valid driver’s license; the driver’s license is a must-have card while driving. The license acts as proof that you’re a trained and qualified driver. We shall also ask you to present your driver’s license and get a copy of it. the international driver’s license is the most preferred but even your national driver’s license is accepted as long as it is translated into the English language. The driver’s license must bear your official name and with a validity of more than 3 months. The foreign driver’s license is valid in Uganda for only three months. If you’re to drive in Uganda for more than three months, you will be required to go to the authorities and seek for driver’s permit.
- A passport or National ID must be presented to the car rental in Uganda. before we hire you a car we need to know who you are and where you come from. It is in our best interest to know the person we are doing business with so that in case of any problem we are able to help you and also trace you out.
- Payment of the car rental services; One of the things required of you before starting your trip is to make a full amount payment of the car rental services. The payment modes are cash and electronic transfer. The most preferred currencies are US dollars, Uganda Shillings, Euros, and Pound Sterling
- Reading and signing of the car rental agreement: A car rental agreement is a dossier that consists of the terms and conditions of hiring the car with us. The client is supposed to read it thoroughly and ask questions if there is any query. He/she must sign on the document as consent that he/she has agreed to our drafted terms.
Driving in Uganda
Driving in Uganda is based on British-invented driving rules and laws. Driving in Uganda is done on the left side of the road. Most of the vehicles used in Uganda are right-hand. The road signs and radars must be followed at all times. Traffic officers are on every corner of the road both on the street roads and main roads to curb the offenders and also enforce the laws rules and regulations of road usage. The maximum speed of driving in towns and other busy areas is 50km/hr. and on highways at 80km/hr.
Driving in the national parks of Uganda is completely different as animals are given the first priority. A driver must always stop and wait for the animal to cross in any national park. the speed limit of driving in the national park is 40km/hr. Don’t drive off the track. You should always keep on the gravel-demarcated roads. In case you flout any driving rules and regulations like knocking down the animals, destroying the natural environment, or going off track, a lofty fine or even imprisonment waits for you.
