Lying in the tropics makes Uganda one of the highest breeding places for dangerous bugs or insects such as mosquitoes, ticks, tsetse flies, bed bugs, wasps, termites, and many more. However, you cannot help it to travel to Uganda because it is such a great place for outdoor and adventurous activities like camping.
The greatest nuances while camping in Uganda are bugs and mosquitoes. They are not only irritating but also cause dangerous diseases. Apart from packing the usual remedies such as mosquito lotion or repellent, there are many other methods to prevent these obnoxious bugs from your campsite.
Follow these 5 effective tips to keep mosquitoes away from your campsite:
Bring Extra Dryer Sheets
Most people don’t know the actual reason why mosquitoes and other bugs detest loitering around dryer sheets. Put them around your camping ground, they will do some magic for you. You will see no bugs irritating you. Ensure to lay some dryer sheets close to your food and table, the bugs won’t bother you during your meal times. Also, keep some in your clothes’ pockets for extra protection.
Wear A Bug Repellant Bracelet
You can never have enough remedies for the prevention of insects and mosquitoes. If you don’t get along with the insecticide sprays or anti-mosquito jellies (because of their stickiness), be sure to purchase an insect-repellent bracelet. You may not have to wear it, you can place it in your bag or tie it somewhere within the vicinity.
The bracelet normally produces moisture comprising active insect-killing components, creating a shield of protection around you.
Put sage on your campfire
If there is something, the bugs and mosquitoes dislike, it is the scent of sage. It is a popular bug repellent and putting it on your campfire will constrain insects away. When around the campfire and enjoying it, the scent of sage will get to your skin and clothes hence offering additional shield even when the fire stops burning.
Use coffee grounds
In the rainy seasons, some parts of the campsites are waterlogged. Stagnant water is one of the most conducive habitats for mosquitoes and one way to eliminate these nagging insects is to destroy their eggs before they hatch. This is where the coffee grounds become useful. Put some in the stagnant water to let the eggs get to the surface and kill them as they will be lacking oxygen.
Use the power of vinegar
We all acknowledge the smell of vinegar is choking and noxious and this also goes for mosquitoes and other bugs. To get rid of these irritating bugs, sprinkle vinegar on the grounds of the campsites. You may also smear yourself with a vinegar-dipped cotton ball.
Wear long clothes at night
You may want to enjoy the chill but a bit warm weather of Uganda at night by wearing short attire. This won’t be helpful because of the mosquitoes and other bugs that loiter around the camping grounds at night. Ensure to wear long clothes and even socks to minimize mosquito bites.
Lastly, as you put the above remedies into practice, you are advised to vaccinate yourself against malaria or carry anti-malarial tablets. Go to your doctor to get the right prescription for the medication.
